For John Van Oers, the motive lies in the cultural landscape that unfolds around him. In how people interact with their surroundings and in how this affects them emotionally. He captures these real-life situations by means of scaled model-like sculptures that accommodate the initial anecdote but no longer reveal it, or by using scenes that
become their own protagonists in the absence of people.
The architecture of our surroundings is thereby fragmented and dissected, stylized into metaphors that speak of desires, of success and failure and everything in between.
Even though they exist in their own right they are detached from that which created them and constitute a reality of their own. A parallel universe where there is no uniformity, that occasionally tempts one to smile, that makes one fully experience what is so much more
difficult to be understood.
Voor John Van Oers ligt de aanleiding in het cultuurlandschap dat zich rondom hem ontplooit, in wat een mens doet met zijn omgeving en wat dat doet met een mens.
Concrete situaties die hij vat met maquette-achtige sculpturen die de initiële anekdote wel herbergen maar niet langer te kennen geven, met scenes die in afwezigheid van personages hun eigen protagonisten zijn.
De architectuur van onze omgeving wordt er gefragmenteerd en ontleed, gestileerd tot metaforen die over verlangens spreken, over slagen en over falen en over alles daartussenin.
Hoewel ze evengoed op zichzelf staan, loskomen van wat hen voortbracht en een eigen werkelijkheid vormen. Een parallel universum waarin eenduidigheid uitblijft, dat soms tot een glimlach verleidt, ten volle laat voelen wat zich zoveel moeilijker laat begrijpen.
