Monochrome simply means painting in one colour. However, there exist as many types of monochrome abstractions as there are monochrome abstract painters. Marc Angeli has been exploring the art of painting for over forty years. Since 1986 he has been painting, either with or without multiple layers of colours on wood, usually in a small or very small format. He utilises his monochrome technique to produce organic paintings using materials found in nature. He employs wine, pollen, rabbit skin glue, natural pigments, olive oil, milk, honey, beeswax, spices such as turmeric and saffron, occasionally animal blood and in the past he sometimes used rice. Each painting has a different expression and a variety of different colour shades is used. In his unique way, he is a free-spirited painter, a stubborn artist who is doing his own thing...
Monochromie betekent simpelweg schilderen in één kleur. Maar er zijn evenveel soorten monochrome abstractie als er monochroom abstracte schilders zijn. Marc Angeli exploreert al meer dan veertig jaar de schilderkunst. Sinds 1986 schildert hij op vrij dik hout, altijd een klein of zeer klein formaat en al dan niet met veel kleurlagen. Zijn monochromie is een organische schilderkunst met materialen uit de natuur. Hij gaat aan de slag met substanties als wijn, pollen, konijnenhuidlijm, natuurlijke pigmenten, de droesem van wijn, olijfolie, melk, honing, bijenwas, kruiden als kurkuma en saffraan, soms dierlijk bloed en vroeger soms rijst. Elk schilderij heeft een andere uitstraling en er is een groot gamma van kleuren. Op zijn manier is hij een radicale schilder, een koppige kunstenaar die zijn eigen ding doet...
