Langs de Doornstraat, in een volledig nieuw ingerichte tentoonstellingsruimte van Fondart, in de schaduw van Texture museum aan de Leie, is Hilde Vandaele Gallery te gast. Terwijl haar galerie voor hedendaagse kunst gelegen is in het kunstenaarsdorp Watou in de Westhoek, kiest ze voor deze gelegenheid de levendige binnenstad als uitvalsbasis. Net zoals in haar paviljoen van hout en glas is er in deze ruimte veel plaats voor de ingetogen sculpturen, installaties en schilderijen van Bram Van Breda (°1992, BE) en Michaël de Kok (°1958, NL). Voor het eerst worden de werken van deze twee kunstenaars, die elk een eigen taal en medium beheersen, samengebracht en met elkaar in dialoog geplaatst.

Bram Van Breda maakt hoofdzakelijk gebruik van recuperatie materiaal uit de Belgische textielindustrie (waaronder Tasibel Kuurne), die hij herhaaldelijk bewerkt om tot beelden te komen. Zijn unieke werkwijze werd reeds in 2017 opgepikt door de Trendforcaster Li Edelkoort als Internationaal Design Talent. 

Momenteel werkt hij een project uit in samenwerking met het internationale jeans merk G-Star Raw. Op hun uitnodiging maakt Van Breda een textiel werk (getiteld Streams) uitsluitend bestaande uit restmateriaal van het jeans productieproces. 

Als centraal thema plaats hij de vitaliteit en noodzakelijkheid van water. 

De productie van jeans is één van de meest vervuilende en water consumerende productieprocessen. 

Het werk Streams zal in het najaar deel uitmaken van een internationale communicatiecampagne en voor het eerst getoond worden in de expo from the inside out tijdens het festival WONDER 2024.

Along the Doornstraat, in a completely redesigned exhibition space of Fondart, in the shadow of Texture museum, Hilde Vandaele Gallery brings a new presentation. While her contemporary art gallery is located in the artists' village of Watou in the Westhoek, she chooses the lively city centre as her base for this specific occasion. Just as in her pavilion of wood and glass, this venue has plenty of room for the sculptures, installations and paintings of Bram Van Breda (°1992, BE) and Michaël de Kok (°1958, NL). For the first time, the works of these two artists, each mastering their own language and medium, are brought together and placed in dialogue with each other.  

Bram Van Breda primarily uses reclaimed materials from the Belgian textile industry, including Tasibel Kuurne, which he repeatedly processes to create his images. His distinctive approach was recognised in 2017 by trend forecaster Li Edelkoort, who named him an International Design Talent.

 

Van Breda is currently collaborating on a project with the international jeans brand G-Star Raw. They invited Van Breda to create a textile work (titled Streams), using only residual materials from the jeans production process. The work centres on the vitality and necessity of water, highlighting the fact that jeans production is one of the most polluting and water-intensive manufacturing processes.

 

Streams will be featured in an international communication campaign this autumn, and will debut at the exhibition from the inside out at the WONDER 2024 festival.
